Gary and Adam were much quicker than the rest of us. Here is a shot of Gary at the summit of Little Belnap Crater while several of us are still on the way across the lava.

The Pacific Crest Trail crosses bare lava for much of the hike. In the distance is our destination.

Unfortuately you cannot tell from this picture, but this is a pretty steep hill. One has to scramble up this scree slope to reach the north shoulder of Belnap.

The trail we choose climbed to the north shoulder of the crater. We then traversed between the second and third crater to climb to the summit along the ridge between the main and second crater. Here Gary and Adam have again pulled ahead of the group.

From the same spot as the last picture I have turned to the northeast to view the fire over the second crater.

Along the spine between the two largest craters there is a small forest of trees. None of them are taller than ten feet. Despite their size I expect they are very old. The climate is very harsh at this elevation.
